Burnley continued their strong start to the season by defeating Crystal Palace last week thanks to Chris Wood's early strike. The Clarets have won two of their opening four fixtures and Sean Dyche will be desperate to keep his side on track this afternoon against the Reds.
Jurgen Klopp's men were frustrated by Sevilla during the week in their Champions League group opener. After falling behind Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah put them ahead, but Firmino missed a spot-kick before half-time and that would prove to be costly as the Spanish outfit equalised in the second half to claim a point.
The Reds were brought back down to earth in the Premier League last week with their 5-0 hammering at the hands of Manchester City. It was a complete role reversal from their victory over Arsenal, while they now have to play without the services of Sadio Mane for three matches due to his dismissal at the Etihad Stadium.
Good afternoon and welcome to the live commentary of the Premier League clash between Liverpool and Burnley at Anfield.
The team news has been announced and we'll start with the home side.
Liverpool have made six changes from their draw with Sevilla during the week. Philippe Coutinho starts for the first time this season in the Premier League. Mane misses out due to suspension, with Daniel Sturridge coming into the side to replace him. Andrew Robertson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, James Milner and Simon Mignolet also come into the fold.
Burnley have made two changes from their win over Palace last time out. Nick Pope starts between the sticks to replace the injured Tom Heaton, while Scott Arfield gets the nod ahead of Sam Vokes, prompting a change in formation.
FLASHBACK! Klopp's men were forced to come from behind to beat Burnley last season at Anfield. Ashley Barnes put the Clarets ahead, but goals from Georginio Wijnaldum and Emre Can secured the win for the Reds in the second half.
STAT ATTACK! Liverpool have won five out of their six Premier League matches against Burnley. Their one defeat came last season at Turf Moor when goals from Vokes and Andre Gray won the game for Dyche's men.
STAT ATTACK! Burnley have lost their nine trips on the bounce to Liverpool, claiming only one win in their last 23 visits to Anfield.
The players are out on the pitch so we should be underway shortly.
HALF-TIME: LIVERPOOL 1-1 BURNLEY
It's all square at the break at Anfield. Liverpool dominated the majority of the first half, but their defensive frailties were on display again as Scott Arfield put Burnley ahead. Mohamed Salah quickly equalised and the Reds were on the front foot for the rest of the half, although they were unable to force their way through the stubborn resistance from Sean Dyche's men.
The players are back out for the second half, so we should be underway shortly.
FULL-TIME: LIVERPOOL 1-1 BURNLEY
A frustrating afternoon for Liverpool as they are unable to secure the three points. Burnley battled well throughout the contest to thwart the Reds. Scott Arfield put Sean Dyche's men in front, but Mohamed Salah equalised. However, from that point on neither team could produce the magic to find the net again, with each earning a share of the spoils. Jurgen Klopp will be annoyed, but his side lacked the clinical edge needed in the final third today.
Thanks for joining our commentary this afternoon. Until next time, goodbye.
